Yo Tengo Agua :)

I have water and you should too!!! Drinking water is so good for you! I always thought that drinking water would make you "bigger" because your stomach would be full of it but its actually the opposite. When you don't drink enough water your body thins that you wont have water (as if your in the middle of the desert without water) so your body says "Hey Kayla's not going to have any water so I should hold onto as much as possible to last here through the rest of this desert" So you body holds onto as much water as possible therefore making you bloated or "bigger". When you drink water constantly throughout the day your body has no reason to hold on to water therefore not making you bloated and making you look "thinner". Water has also has many other health benefits. So drink, drink, drink!!!!!!! Educating yourself is going to make everything easier. So please take control and educate yourself on ways to live better and be better. Please follow me the winding road I call "My Road To Success" and we can be better together.

Eat Some, Lose Some

So I've been changing the way I eat and work out because I want to live a long happy life so I'm taking charge now! I've been going to LAFitness everyday for the past week. I go to the Cycling class at 5:30am every Tuesday and Thursday and then I attend classes such as Body Boot Camp, Body Work plus Abs, and Step Aerobics. I've found it easier to work out in a group because it pushes me to my limits, I can't slack off when there are so many people giving their all.

So cycling class kicks my butt!!! I would recommend this class to anyone who wants to get the best leg and core workout in an hour. I leave that class drenched in sweat, it looks like I just left the water aerobics class. Haha. I would recommend taking this class in the morning or just working out in general in the morning. And these are a few reasons why..
-You get it out of the way!!!
-Boost your metabolism
-Dr. Oz says so!!

Who wants to leave work and think "Ugh Now I have to go workout". If you do it in the morning you get it out of the way and you can start off the day already wide awake and ready to go. Also tons of studies show that working out in the morning boost your metabolism. What this means is your body will burn up what you consume so much faster. The amazing Dr. Oz says the 6:35am is the best time of day to loss weight. Dr. Oz shows an amazing analogy of what working out in the morning can do for you... Check it out: http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/best-time-lose-weight-pt-1

So for me I've been cycling in the morning :) Ok so I have to go...I'm going for a swim at LAFitness :) Have an amazing day...please take control of your life and live it to your fullest. Don't let life pass you by......making little changes in life today can point you to a brighter tomorrow! Please hang out with me on "My Road To Success" and we can be better together!!!

I'm Back :)

Hey Everyone, so I took some time off from the blogging world but I'm back. I'm making a lot of changes in life from the way I eat, the way I exercise, to my wardrobe, to auditioning, working on set and more. I want to keep you updated on everything I'm doing and also give you tips to help you live a better life! If you have any questions about anything please ask and I will try my best to answer them :) Please follow me on 'My Road To Success" and we will make these changes together!!

The Breakdown

So I’m going to give you a break down on all the projects I'm working on. I'll keep them in organized sections so that it will be easy for you to follow.

Ok Let's Start...

Guitar-
I've been looking up potential songs for this week :) I have found 2 ok ones but I need to find AMAZING ones. So the search is still on for a song..... It’s spring break this week so I’m at my house in Lantana, FL for the week and I just went back down to Lynn last night to pick up my guitar. Now I can make some magic!!!

Musical Revue-
This is the show I'm directing!!!! Like I said in my last post, this Musical Revue is going to be a showcase of all your favorite Broadway Hits. I emailed the cast on Friday asking them if they accept their role in the showcase. So far I have heard confirmations from Sophia Barrett, Clifford McKinney, Jennifer Morano, Stephanie LoVerde, Katie Welch, Katie Arriola, and Darrick Penny. I am still waiting on confirmations from a few more...Hopeful they come through.
So right now I'm caught in a jam :( I have to find a pianist that would play for FREE and that's really hard to find. I have a potential pianist so I'm trying to gather all the sheet music and get it to her but she's not sure if she can do it yet. It's really hard to get in contact with anyone right now because this week is our Spring Break and everyone is gone, so that puts a little dip in the road. So if ANYONE knows a pianist that is will to play for free, please let me know!!! Thankies

Directing Showcase-
On Wednesday I had callbacks for the Directing Showcase. I found out shortly after that I was playing opposite Marc Castellano (Young Man), as the role of "Girl" in "While the Auto Waits" directed by Karim El Debs. I have heard little about the play and I haven't received a script or a rehearsal schedule, so I waiting to hear about it all.

Vagina Monologues-
The Vagina Monologues is a play written to stop the Violence of Women and to bring awareness to the subject. I've been working on this project since December, I believe. I have rehearsal twice every other week. It's a nice light and easy rehearsal process right now :) I am "Woman 2" in "Introduction", I am in "A 6-year-old Girl Was Asked..." and I’m "Woman H" in "Say It".

Celebration of the Arts-
Formally known as "The Dance Knight Light", Celebration of the Arts as grown as fast as you can say Dance. It is so much more than dance now; it has singing, musicians and so much more. I auditioned last Tuesday for dance. I auditioned Bollywood, Contemporary, and Pop Jazz. I am waiting to hear which numbers I will be accepted into :) I'll keep you posted. Check out Bianca's blog (the director)  http://bianca-letsdance.blogspot.com/

Undergraduate Repertory-
So I have to come up with a 10 minute show just involving me. A One Woman Show!!! I can do singing, dance, monologues, ect. Where do I start??? I've been looking through a couple monologue books but nothing sticks out at me. I do have a couple songs in mind for the show, so I’ll be practicing those. I haven't decided if I want to dance yet. It's would be nice to do because I can do anything I want but also I would have to practice a lot for it. And also I would have to pick a genre; would I do contemporary, tap, jazz, hip-hop, bollywood...the possibilities are endless. I need to find a theme!!!!! I spoke with Carrie and Adam Simpson (my acting professors) about it and they said find the pieces you want to do and a theme will just come. Ugh...will see what I can do.

Fragments-
I just received an email booking me to play the role of "Jessie" in Fragments. Directors Stephanie Williams, Grant Cumbest, and Adam Goldberg are creating a film for their Senior Seminar class and are working very hard on it. I haven't received a script yet all I know about Jessie is what I read off of their blogs.
Straight from Stephanie Williams blog... http://williamsseniorsem.blogspot.com/
Jessie, the 'budding writer': Next up is Jessie, a character that I developed. Jessie has just graduated from college, and is stuck in that awkward phase of being optimistic (perhaps a bit idealistic) about the future while remaining completely insecure and indecisive in the present. Having just graduated from college, Jessie is trying to establish herself as an author, but is at a complete loss as to how to begin living in the real world. To top it all off, she's been struck with a case of writers block! Jessie's episode takes place in a coffee shop as she tries to come up with ideas for her first novel, and features some exciting filmmaking techniques involving changing perspective, time lapse, and use of the steadicam!

So that's everything!!!! I hope you keep updated on my "Road to Success"

Sooooo Much To Do....Sooooo Little Time

Hey Everyone!!! So I feel like I haven’t talked to you in FOREVER :( It's been a week since I posted last and I'm sorry to say I won’t be posting a video this week. I have had so much going on that I was unable to play the guitar as much as I usually do, which resulted in poor guitar playing skills this week. I didn't have time to find a song and rehearse it to performance level.

My life is ALWAYS busy and that's how I like it but this past week it has gone over-board. For the next couple of months I will be running off of very little sleep. In addition to playing the guitar for 3-4 hours a day, I am an RA (love it!!) at Lynn University and that is a full time job in itself. I work in the Campus Recreation department at Lynn and also I am the Chair of the Women's Center Advisory Board. Then I just recently started working again at the Palm Beach Zoo as a waitress. Oh ya and I almost forgot. A little thing called College Classes and homework!!!!

And now I am involved in 6 acting projects at my school all at the same time. The Vagina Monologues, Directing Showcase, Celebration of the Arts, Undergraduate Repertory, Fragments, and Musical Revue. On Monday I had an audition for the Directing Showcase. Tuesday had Celebration of the Arts dance auditions. Wednesday I had callbacks for the Directing Showcase and also held auditions for the show I'm running. I'm also working on the Vagina Monologues and I just received the role as Jessie in Stephanie William, Adam Goldberg, and Grant Cumbest’s Senior Seminar film “Fragments”. And on top of all that I was just ask to be apart of the Undergraduate Repertory, which means I have to make a 10 minute show of just me.

Ok now let me catch my breath....

Sooo I'm directing my first show ever!!!!! :) I'm directing a Musical Revue at Lynn University which is showcased on March 23rd at 7:30pm. We held our open auditions on Wednesday and Thursday and casted the show on Friday. I'm really excited for this project. Before becoming a Drama major I only ever did musicals; in high school and at church. Lynn University has never produced a musical and this is the closes I'm getting to one for now. So if I wasn't going to get a musical, I thought I'd make one. The Musical Revue Knight Light is a medley of Broadway songs from you're favorite shows. We will sing some of the classics and also introduce you to songs you've never heard of.

So for the next 2 1/2 weeks I will be directing our Musical Revue Knight Light. And for the next couple of months I will be completely consumed in theatre, film, and music. :) Sounds like what I want the rest of my life to sound like!!!!

So what first started out to be a blog about learning to play the guitar is now growing into a blog involving everything entertainment. I will still continue learning the guitar and posting videos along the way but I will also be informing you on everything entertainment involving me. , updates on all my shows and the rehearsal process and videos of it all. I will post videos of potential songs, dances, and monologues and I will be asking your advice on everything!!!

So continue to watch the rollercoaster event entitled “Kayla’s Road to Success

Finding Inspiration...

I told myself that I was going to be completely honest when I started this blog. I wasn't going to hold anything back; if there was something wrong I would tell you. So here it goes...

This week has been a struggle. It's hard to write down in words how I feel; there are so many different emotions. I am someone who is an emotional perfectionist; when I care about something so much I want it to be perfect. And I have found this is also becoming apart of my performing. I never want to perform a role that I'm not perfect at, I never want to dance something that isn't perfect, and I don't want to perform when the song isn't perfect. I am my number one critic. But with the challenge to post a new video every Wednesday, I'm forced to post videos that aren't perfect in my eyes. It's just become so hard to find the perfect song every week, learn it, and perform it. I'm trying to teach myself everything and it's hard. I know I've come along way from first picking the guitar up 29 days ago, but I want to be amazing now, and it's frustrating me that I'm not. One of my acting Professors Adam Simpson, who has been really helpful with teaching me different strum patterns, told me "to praise every little accomplishment" and I want to but I just can't. I just feel that I want it so bad, that I'm not allowing myself room to make mistakes and mess up. If I could I would just practice 24/7 that would be ideal because I want to be great and being great takes time; but I have classes and work and theatre shows and these things have first priority. I've already sacrificed doing homework assignments so that I can practice, but in the long run it will start effecting my grades.

Also I know that image is just as important as talent. Before you open your mouth they have already judged you; so what do they see. I have always been an active person; playing soccer, swimming, ect.; but I'm not happy with where I am at. So I've been going back to the gym, going running more, and watching what I eat.

I'm sorry this entry it's not all sunshine and butterflies, but I thought that that ya'll should know where I’m at. Since my theme is my “Road to Success" I just thought I would let you know that I'm at a speed bump right now and trying to get over it. Thanks for listening and hopefully everything works out and I pull something together by Wednesday.

I hope you stay with me as I continue to purse my "Road to Success"

Working Hard!!

Vote for the next song!!  =>>>>

Playing 2,3,4 hours a day is a lot of time! I'm have been dedicating so many hours to playing guitar. I want to be amazing, so to become amazing I must practice really really hard. I on and off practice about 4 hours a day and it's starting to pay off. I can see and hear the difference of my guitar playing skills already. Looking back on last week’s song (If I Die Young) and reading everyone's comments I've been trying really hard to do well this week. I don't want to disappoint you guys :(

So for some serious news there has been a death in the family; my guitar family that is. :( So this is the story: After playing and posting "If I Die Young" I noticed that the guitar sounded out of tune which resulted in me been flat a couple of times. Well I was noticing that I had to tune my guitar every time I played it; which is everyday. So I was like well I probably need my strings changed or something? So today I called a couple of places and they said that it would take a day to do. I didn't have a day to spare! I need to practice! I have to post on Wednesday! Then I called Backstage Music Network and said that they will do it and get it back to me before 7pm. YEAH!!!! Backstage Music Network to the rescue! You can find them on facebook, they were awesome! So I ran it to them and she took my guitar and took one look at it and almost fell backwards. My baby was dieing. She showed me that the Bridge (pic to the top right) on my guitar was about to snap off. She said "You never noticed this before?" Whoops...must have slipped by me? So I asked her if they could fix it she said yes but they would have to send it out to get fixed and get it back in 4 days....4 days!?!?!? I didn't have 4 days. Plus it would be expensive to fix because of how bad it was. So I found that the better and smarter financial investment would be to get a new guitar. She nicely brought me over to the guitars on the wall and let me play with them. I asked her tons of questions and told her why I was learning and she was super helpful. She said that since I will be performing it would be smart to get an acoustic guitar that can be plugged into amps and whatnot. So I walked out the store with a brand-spankin new $200 all black acoustic Stagg guitar. It's absolutely gorgeous and its so much better to play on. So even though we lost a member of our family, we welcomed a new one in.
Just a reminder, I will be posting Stay - Sugarland on Wednesday. Keep looking out for me on my "Road to Success"

New Song???

Sooo you guys voted and RESULTS ARE IN.....(Dun, Dun, Dun) And the winner is....Stay - Sugarland with 9 votes, and the runner-up with You're Still the One - Shaina Twain at 7 votes :) I will be posting new videos every WEDNESDAY. So I posted my first video yesterday performing If I Die Young and your comments have been so helpful. I really love that ya'll want to help me!!! I want to be amazing and you guys are helping me do that. I will definitely keep practicing and perfecting the song so that by the time I perform it live it's actually good lol
So I just played through Stay - Sugarland and it definitely needs some work :/ The chords are the basic D, G, A, Em so the pretty simple, I just need to practice the transitions and the strumming.
Please vote on next week song, you have till Wednesday :)
I really hope you keep updated on my "Road to Success" and I will let you know how the song is coming!!!

**Also I just started a YouTube Channel if you want to check it out. It has me singing, dancing, and acting** http://www.youtube.com/user/kaylagolladay

Week 1-2 (cont)

So since the last time I posted a lot of things have been going on. Ok starting with Wed, Feb 2nd; what an amazing day!! So I woke up at 5:30am and drove to the Spanish River beach and watched the sun rise.  I greeted the sun by playing Hey Stephan by Taylor Swift; it was a beautiful moment. But then my fingers started hurting and doubt got into my head and I knew I had to post a video soon but I didn't feel ready. So then I decided to watch YouTube videos for inspiration but that back fired, I ended up watching videos of really good singer/guitarist and got discouraged. But then out of the no where this guy came up to me and asked me "How long you've been playing?" I told him 10 days and he asked me to play him something. I was thinking "Holy cow, I am so bad. He's probably gonna run away.." So I played him the first verse and chorus of Hey Stephan. At the end of it he was like "10 days??? That was really good." He thanked me for playing and told me I made his day. Ugh, God has humor. He makes you realize you know nothing. When you think you’re horrible and that you suck, he shows you how wrong you are. :)

Ok so good and bad news. Bad news is that I won't be singing Hey Stephan - Taylor Swift as my first song and I won't be posting as soon as I wanted to. Good news is that I found a new song to perform. On Friday, Feb 4th, we had a Kyle Conrad Memorial service.

Kyle Conrad was a 21 year old senior and soccer player at Lynn University that sadly passed away on Dec 11, 2010. I have decided to make my first song a tribute to both Kyle Conrad and the 4 students and 2 faculty that we lost in the Haiti earthquake. I chose "If I Die Young - The Band Perry”. This song is so beautiful and I want to sing it for them. I got the music yesterday so give me a couple of days to master it and then I will post the video.

I hope you’re on the edge of your seat while following me on my "Road to Success". Also if you have any request for songs please let me know I want to sing things You want to hear.

Week 1-2:

Week 1 for me actually started last week. I knew I was going to be doing this project so I thought I would get a head start on it. I picked up the guitar on Jan 23th 2011 and that's where it all begins... One of my friends Tommy plays so he was teaching me some chords. I knew the basic chords A, C, D, E, G but wasn't anywhere near mastering them. So we were all hanging out at a BBQ outside of Dehornle (doesn't that sound like a typical guitar playing setting) and Tommy taught me the first verse of Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley. Yeah. I love that song but I totally killed it. It was horrible; but I thought, "It's my first day, isn't everyone bad at first?" So throughout the week I continued to try. I printed out some chord music to play instead of playing Halleljuah 4 billion times.

I really like Taylor Swift and Katy Perry so I printed my favorites from them. Taylor Swift's music is good to start off with because it's simple chords and the songs are fun. But the trouble with Taylor's songs is that you need a Capo, so I went shopping. I went to Marathon Music Center in Boynton Beach, Fl and had a free for all. I got a Capo, a guitar case, guitar strap, guitar stand, and some picks. So now with all my new toys I decided to take them out to play. My school is about 5 miles away from the Spanish River beach so I woke up this morning and played. It was just the sand, the water, a couple of segals, and me and my guitar. It was beautiful; I think I'm going to make this an everyday thing. It was an amazing feeling to be out there in the open just banging away on the guitar singing my favorite music. I think I've made some progress already in just the 9 days I've been playing. I'll keep you updated on my "Road to Success"....wait for it, there will be a video up soon.

Welcome to "Kayla's Road to Success"

Hey Everyone!! Thank you so much for stopping by my blog :) This is my first blog entry and I just want to introduce myself and the reasons for me starting my blog. First, my name is Kayla Golladay. I am a Sophomore at Lynn Univerisity in Boca Raton, Florida. I'm taking "The Blogosphere Identity" course with Professor Carrie Simpson. We have to pick a goal that we want to accomplish in the 12 week semester. My goal in life is to become a  performer and entertainer. I love singing, dancing, and acting and I want to perfect my love of performing. I am a Drama Major at Lynn and I have been taking dance classes to get more training so I can be the best. I am commiting my life to pursuing what I love. But I have a couple speedbumps in front of me. One being my lack of training and knowledge of how to play the guitar. Learning the guitar will allow me to take my vocal performance to the next level. So this is my challenge to myself.....I want to learn to play guitar in this 12 week course. I want to learn a song a week and by the end of the semester perform at a local bar/coffee shop/pub. I want to be able to perform a set (30-45mins) of just my voice and my guitar. This challenge seems nearly impossible because I will be teaching myself but I WANT IT; so I will give anything and everything to accomplish this goal. I hope you continue to follow me on my "Road to Success". I will be posting videos along the way so please comment honestly so that I can become the best I can be. Have an amazing day and I will talk to you soon :)
